五力

(sa) pañcabalāni, the five powers or faculties -- one of the categories of the thirty-seven bodhipakṣika dharma [lang id =1028]三十七助道品; they destroy the [lang id =1028]五障 five obstacles, each by each, and are: [lang id =1028]信力 śraddhābala, faith (destroying doubt); [lang id =1028]精進力 vīryabala, zeal (destroying remissness); [lang id =1028]念 or [lang id =1028]勤念 smṛtibala, memory or thought (destroying falsity); [lang id =1028]正定力 samādhibala, concentration of mind, or meditation (destroying confused or wandering thoughts); and [lang id =1028]慧力 prajñābala, wisdom (destroying all illusion and delusion). Also the five transcendent powers, i. e. [lang id =1028]定力 the power of meditation; [lang id =1028]通力 the resulting supernatural powers; [lang id =1028]借識力 adaptability, or powers of 'borrowing' or evolving any required organ of sense, or knowledge, i. e. by beings above the second dhyāna heavens; [lang id =1028]大願力 the power of accomplishing a vow by a Buddha or bodhisattva; and [lang id =1028]法威德力 the august power of Dharma. ◆﹝出法界次第﹞ 止觀輔行問云： 名同於根， 何須更立？答： 善根雖生， 惡猶未破， 更須修習， 令根增長。 根成惡破， 復名為力。 〔一、 信力〕， 謂信正道及助道法， 若信根增長， 則能遮諸煩惱， 不為偏小諸疑所動， 故名信力。 〔二、 精進力〕， 謂行此正道及助道法時， 若精進根增長， 則能除身心懈怠， 成辦出世之法， 是為精進力。 〔三、 念力〕， 謂念正道及助道法， 若念根增長， 則能破諸邪想， 成就一切出世正念功德， 是為念力。 〔四、 定力〕， 謂攝心正道及助道法， 若定根增長， 則能破諸亂想， 發諸事理禪定， 是為定力。 （事理禪定者， 事即色界、 無色界、 禪定也。 理即聲聞等依理修習所發禪定是也。 ） 〔五、 慧力〕， 謂四念處之慧， 照了一切諸法， 若慧根增長， 則能除一切邪妄之執， 破一切偏小之慧， 故名慧力。 ◆力即力用， 謂能破惡成善也。 一、 信力， 謂信根增長， 能破諸疑惑也。 二、 精進力， 謂精進根增長， 能破身心懈怠， 成辦出世之事也。 三、 念力， 謂念根增長， 能破諸邪念， 成就出世正念功德也。 四、 定力， 謂定根增長， 能破諸亂想， 發諸禪定也。 五、 慧力， 謂慧根增長， 能遮止三界見、 思之惑， 發真無漏也。 （三界者， 欲界、 色界、 無色界也。 見、 思惑者， 分別曰見惑， 貪愛曰思惑也。 真無漏者， 謂阿羅漢斷見、 思惑盡， 不漏落三界生死， 異於初果等， 故名真也。 ）

五根堅固發生力量， 叫做五力， 即信力、 精進力、 念力、 定力、 慧力。 信力是信根增長， 能破諸邪信； 精進力是精進根增長， 能破身之懈怠； 念力是念根增長， 能破諸邪念； 定力是定根增長， 能破諸亂想； 慧力是慧根增長， 能破三界之諸惑。
